Franz Sturm is a professional Hockey Coach from Austria who has held many titles over his impressive career, including being the Coach at Lyceum Alpinum where he joined the Men’s Blues in their first year in Zuoz. This year Franz came to Cambridge for what he called “Power-Week”, a week-long camp to get the season off to a strong start.
Working with both the Men’s and Women’s Blues, Franz helped both teams develop many fundamental skills, starting the week with skating, passing and shooting drills. Later in the “Power-week” the focus switched to game-like scenarios. With both teams often experiencing a high player turnover, a major task for the Blues is to quickly get newcomers and vets on the same page, and playing disciplined and structured hockey in time for the new season. Franz’s “Power-week” helped both teams achieve that goal. Finally, the teams will remember Franz’s words of wisdom in the Varsity Matches when it matters most: “score more goals”.
